Poor weather cancels rugby event

A Premiership rugby club has been forced to cancel a bank holiday open day as a result of poor weather.

Up to 5,000 people had been expected to attend the Event at Gloucester's Kingsholm ground in the city centre to welcome the new season.

Spokesman Peter Grozonka said it had been a tough decision to take.

"While the pitch is perfectly playable, we risk causing permanent damage to the surface if several thousand people have access," he said.
