Pedestrian hit and injured by car

A 34-year-old man has been seriously injured after he was hit by a car in Gloucestershire in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The man was struck by a Ford Focus in Trewsbury Road, Coates, near Cirencester at 0130 BST. The female driver was uninjured in the accident.

The man was initially taken to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Cheltenham.

He was later transferred to the head injuries unit at Frenchay Hospital.

The road was closed for four hours after the accident, and police have appealed for witnesses.
