Parrish parents to continue quest

The parents of murdered English student Joanna Parrish said they would continue their "quest for justice" after the man suspected of her killing was jailed.

Michel Fourniret, 66, was sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of seven girls in France.

Fourniret was made an official suspect in the Parrish case in March 2008.

Miss Parish's parents attended the hearing and said: "We must wait to see if Fourniret is to be charged in connection with her death."

Miss Parish, 21, from Gloucester was raped and murdered in Auxerre in 1990 while working as a trainee teacher.

'Kindness and hope'

Roger Parrish and Pauline Sewell said in a joint statement: "Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of this killer. We are grateful to them for the support.

"We would like to acknowledge the kindness and message of hope from around the world over the last 18 years."

Fourniret stalked and killed young women aged 12 to 21 between 1987 and 2001.

Monique Olivier, 59, was also convicted for helping Fourniret with some of the killings and sentenced to life.

The verdict closes a two-month trial.
