Public invited to city's priory

Demolition work
The work will also provide access to more of the priory's structure

An 800-year-old priory undergoing renovation is to be opened to allow the public to see the work in progress.

The Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company is to open the historic Blackfriars Priory for four days from Wednesday.

There will also be Civic Trust-led tours of the Medieval building.

The 13th century priory is being restored as part of an ongoing major regeneration scheme throughout Gloucester city centre.

The work, sponsored by the South West of England Regional Development Agency will also help provide access to more of the structure of the priory.

This will include the Scriptorium, where monks worked more than 750 years ago.
