Multi-million pound marina opens

Saul Marina
It is hoped the marina will attract more visitors to the area

A new multi-million pound marina has been officially opened at Saul Junction in Gloucestershire.

The ceremony was performed by Stroud MP David Drew aboard the Cotswold Canal Trust's boat, Perseverance.

Sluices connecting the basin to the Stroudwater Canal were opened in March and began filling the marina under controlled conditions.

It is hoped the 280-berth complex will benefit the local economy and bring visitors to the area.

The marina has running water and electricity.

Temporary toilets and showers are in place, with a new shower block due to be finished in June and an office complex scheduled to open in August.

Saul Junction lies about half way along the 16-mile Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.
