Extra cash for flood-hit county

A further £1.1m is to be given to Gloucestershire to help the county's flood recovery programme.

Most of the money has already been earmarked for various projects by Gloucestershire First, the economic partnership in charge of distribution.

The money comes from the Severn Trent Flood Recovery Fund and will benefit companies in the county affected by last summer's floods.

It will also help promote the fact that the county is open for business.

In December it was announced that the UK was to receive £115m from Europe to help clean up damage from the summer floods, after a recommendation from the European Commission.

Around 48,000 homes and 7,000 businesses were affected in south-west England, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside in June and July.

The government applied for compensation from the EU Solidarity Fund after damage was put at £3.3bn.
