Abbey service honours flood dead
Hundreds of people have attended a special service at Tewkesbury Abbey to reflect on the July floods.

The families of those who died lit candles in their memory and paid tribute to the emergency services and the community spirit.

Chief fire officer Terry Standing, from the fire and rescue service, said each rescue mission brought out acts of bravery, courage and determination.

He said staff were proud to serve the people they helped.

Victims remembered

The service also remembered those who died as a result of the deluge.

Bramwell Lane, 64, and his son Chris Lane, 27, were found dead in July at Tewkesbury Rugby Club.

It is thought they were overcome by fumes from a petrol pump as they worked through the night to clear a flooded cellar so the club could reopen.

Mitchell Taylor, 19, was reported missing in Tewkesbury after the severe storms of 20 July which flooded large areas of the county.

His body was found by Italian rescue workers in a submerged field seven days later.
