Volunteers in the Quedgeley area of Gloucester have been collecting plastic bottles from people unable to get to recycling centres.
The team called on elderly or disabled people who received deliveries of bottled water at home after the floods.
The parish council said it was a one-off operation and there would be no kerbside collections.
Severn Trent Water made available more than 50 million litres of bottled water during the flood crisis.
The number of plastic bottle recycling banks was increased in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud.
