Vandals hit 1930s park bandstand
Graffiti on bandstand
An attempt to have the bandstand listed failed in 2006
Vandals have daubed the 1930s bandstand in Gloucester Park with paint.

It is believed the structure was attacked sometime between the evening of 5 May or early on Sunday morning.

Slogans were painted apparently attacking a local councillor and making a personal attack on one of campaigners fighting to save it from demolition.

Liberal Democrat leader Councillor Jeremy Hilton said he was "shocked" to see the damage and called on the police to launch an investigation.

Last year attempts to list it were rejected after an appeal to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Following a public consultation a new Victorian-style bandstand is to be built to replace the brick and concrete structure built in 1933, which is in poor condition.

The public were asked to choose whether the original should be restored or altered or a new structure built.
