Litter clear-up for the Cotswolds

Litter pickers have begun work to clear-up a 30-mile stretch of the A429 from Stretton-on-Fosse in the north of the Cotswolds to Kemble in the south.

So far two litter pickers on the trunk road have covered 15 miles and picked up a tonne of rubbish.

District councillor Mark Tufnell said: "Litter breeds litter and if we can clear up the verges it will encourage people to take their rubbish home."

The annual spring clean is asking people to tidy up their local area.

"It is very dangerous to pick litter from main roads, which is why contractors have to do the work but if you can get a group of volunteers together in your community then it is a very effective way of cleaning-up your local area," said councillor Tufnell.

Volunteers can join the annual spring clean during March and April when rubbish bags and gloves will be provided by the council.
