Two robbers have been jailed for the manslaughter of a tutor who surprised them in the grounds of a college in Stroud where he lived and worked.

Darren Botchett, 34 of Matson Avenue and Ian Richards, 29, from Jersey Road, Gloucester, were jailed for six and four years at Bristol Crown Court.

Lawrence Hart, 53, was attacked when he surprised the pair in the grounds of Hawkwood College, Wick Street.

College Principal Richard Brinton said Mr Hart was an inspiring individual.

The court heard Mr Hart was stabbed and beaten after tackling the intruders in August 2005

Hawkwood College, housed in a 19th Century manor, is used for residential courses, including arts, music and personal development.
