Tribute to dustman killed by car
Gareth Davies, who was knocked down as he worked as a binman
Binman Gareth Davies was a keen supporter of organ transplantation
The family of a young dustman who died after he was knocked down by a car while collecting rubbish say his organs will be used to help others.

Gareth Davies, 23, from Broadwell in the Forest of Dean, was hit as he worked his recycling round on the A417, near Redmarley, last Tuesday.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, but died the following day.

His parents say he was passionate about the issue of organ donation, and they hope some good will come of his death.

His father Mike, 59, from Lydbrook, said: "He always carried a donor card and more recently he wore a tee-shirt advertising it as well because he always said they needed all the donors they can get.

Lively character

"The fact his organs will be used to help others is the one good thing to come out of this".

Mr Davies and his wife Jenny, 53, said their son was a lively character who was passionate about sport and music.

"He had a wacky sense of humour", said Mrs Davies. "He was a real practical joker and although he could be quite naughty it was all good stuff, never nasty."

Gareth's friends have been asked to chose the music for his funeral, which will be held at Lydbrook Church, at 0930 BST on Thursday.
