Gloucester's National Waterways Museum has been given a £98,000 grant to improve its collection.
The cash is coming from the Museum, Libraries and Archives Council and will enable the centre to employ a full time project manager for the next two years.
A spokeswoman for the Waterways Trust, which owns the museum, said the trust was "delighted" and that it was "hugely important" for the centre.
It is hoped the manager's post will be filled by June.
