Spa town names new council boss
A former solicitor has been appointed boss of Cheltenham Borough Council.

Andrew North will replace Christine Laird who lost her job following a confidential probe into her conduct.

Andrew North started his career in law before moving to local government in Hertfordshire and Somerset. He moves to the job from Durham County Council.

"No doubt there will be challenges ahead, but Cheltenham is a great place and has an excellent council with impressive staff," he said.

Mr North beat off competition from six candidates to clinch the job as chief executive.
