Inpatients decision is referred
Protesters rally in a bid to save Fairford hospital beds
Campaigners gathered to mark the end of inpatient services
The closure of inpatient services at Fairford Hospital is to be referred to the Secretary of State for Health.

The 15-bed unit closed on Wednesday as part of cost-cutting measures by the Cotswold and Vale primary care trust.

At a meeting of Stroud District Council, members referred the issue to Patricia Hewitt's department.

Campaigners held a ceremony at the hospital on Wednesday to mark the end of in-patient care.

They say there was insufficient consultation and contrary to public opinion on the issue.

Supporters are due to take part in a national rally at Westminster on 28 March to highlight the threat to community hospitals around the country.
