Care home in the dark about probe
Newsham House Nursing Home
Dozens of files were removed for inspection
Managers of a nursing home at the centre of an inquiry have said they do not know why it is being investigated.

On Tuesday, about 30 police officers and social workers carried out a raid on Newsham House in Gloucester.

It followed a tip-off to the Commission for Social Care Inspection and dozens of records were seized.

A statement from the company operating the home said it had received "no clear information as yet to the precise nature of the investigation itself".

It continued: "The management and staff of Newsham House have been in touch with the relatives of residents today and we have been encouraged by their continued support at this difficult time.

"We would like to take the opportunity to reassure them that their relatives continue to be well-cared for whilst these investigations are concluded."

After the operation, Det Ch Insp Neil Kelly said: "I don't want to give the impression that there is any criminal conduct. We are just here to determine whether that is the case."

No formal charges have been made against the home by the authorities.
