Roadworks mean main route closure
View of Painswick town centre
Diversions to the Rococco Gardens will be clearly signed
For two weeks a main route between Cheltenham and Stroud will be closed to traffic while 100,000 of roadworks are carried out.

The A46 through Painswick will shut on 20 February while the carriageway is strengthened and resurfaced.

Bus services including the 46 through the town will be affected during the second week of the works.

Diversions will be signposted but access to the town centre will be unaffected for shoppers and businesses.

New drains will be laid and pavement created to make access to the town centre easier for pedestrians.

As the road is quite narrow (down to 3.5 metres in places), it will not be possible to keep one lane open.

Affected bus services
Service 256, Eastcombe - The Camp - Painswick - Gloucester operates Wednesday & Saturday only (Beaumont Travel).
Service 295 - Stroud North Link operated by Beaumont Travel.
These services will have limited access in Painswick.

The 46 bus service will have access through the town centre outside the hours of 0900 and 1530 GMT.

Stagecoach will be operating a temporary timetable between these hours. The road will be open in the evening and weekends as normal.

Andrew Turner, from Gloucestershire County Council, said: "During this project, there will be some delays for the motorist. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused."

A local diversion for Rococco Gardens will be created along the A4173 to Sneedhams Lane onto the B4073 and along Upton Hill.
