The Conservatives have gained a seat on Cotswold District Council in Gloucestershire, after a by-election.
Sandra Carter took the previously independent seat at Kempsford-Lechlade, which was made vacant by the resignation of Hazel Jones.
Mrs Carter beat the Liberal Democrats' Peterjon Maslen by 683 votes to 403. No other candidates stood.
A district council spokeswoman said the turnout for the by-election on Thursday was 34.76%.
