Heavy snow has fallen on ungritted roads across Essex

Bus services in parts of Essex were suspended after snow fell on to frozen ungritted roads over the weekend.

A supervisor for First Buses at Basildon said no services would go out until roads are gritted.

A spokesman for Arriva said services in Southend have had to be re-assessed due to the treacherous conditions.

Passengers were warned to expect delays on services between Basildon, Billericay, Wickford, Canvey Island, Hadleigh and Southend which were hit.

Police report that many roads are slippery and are urging people only to drive if absolutely necessary.
