Teenager killed as car hits tree

A teenager has died and a man is in a critical condition after a car hit a tree in Essex.

The crash happened on Cymbeline Road, also known as the Avenue of Remembrance, in Colchester, in the early hours.

An 18-year-old male passenger died at the scene.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was taken to Colchester General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, an Essex Police spokesman said.

The black Ford Fiesta had been been travelling towards the town centre when the crash happened near the junction Sheepen Road shortly after 0230 GMT.
