Three rescued from car in river

Three people have been rescued from a car when it became stuck in a fast flowing river in Essex.

The driver of a BMW X5 had tried to cross Buttsbury Wash, Ingatestone between Chelmsford and Brentwood on Sunday afternoon.

Two men and a woman were trapped inside. The coastguard helicopter, three fire engines and a rescue boat were called to the scene.

Fire crews used the boat to reach the occupants and take them to safety.

No-one was injured.
