Man is arrested after fatal crash

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist was killed in a road accident in Essex.

A Vauxhall Astra car and a bicycle were in collision in Lifstan Way, Southend, in the early hours of the morning, police said.

The 43-year-old cyclist, from Southend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man from Southend was arrested. Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police.

Lifstan Way is currently closed and diversions are in place, said police.
