Man jailed over stabbing murder

A 45-year-old man has been jailed for a minimum of 12 years for murdering a 33-year-old Essex man.

Daniel Berry, of Linden Way, Canvey Island, died in hospital from a single stab wound on 31 October last year.

James Pearson, from High Street, Benfleet, killed Mr Berry, who was visiting him, during an argument.

Pearson, who was found guilty at a trial in June, was given a life sentence at Chelmsford Crown Court and must serve a minimum of 12 years.

After the trial Mr Berry's family said: "Daniel was a gentleman. He was polite, well mannered and kind hearted.

"While Daniel was not a saint, he was a good man.

"When Daniel was killed, a big part of our family was taken from us and can never be replaced.

"He meant so much to us and to his friends. His is a grievous loss to us all, and he is so very sadly missed."
