Model Katie Price has been named as the new patron of a polo tournament to be held in Essex.

The Duke of Essex Polo Trophy will see British and Argentinian teams competing in the grounds of the Gaynes Park Estate, near Epping on 4 July.

Keen horsewoman Price will officially start the match, present the trophy and take part in a charity fashion show.

The tournament will benefit the charity Vision, which helps blind children and those with visual impairment.

The glamour model, also known as Jordan, said: "I would really like to shatter the image of polo as an elitist sport.

"It does take an enormous amount of skill and courage to ride a polo pony in a competitive match, but it should be open to everyone to enjoy a great day like this, as well as raise a lot of money for charity."

Last month Price announced her separation from her husband of three-and-a-half years, Peter Andre, with whom she has two children.

Her first public appearance after the split was to model her line of horse-related clothing, KP Equestrian.
