Contract success for armour maker

Body armour
The firm is among the largest exporters of body armour

An Essex-based manufacturer has won contracts worth £76m to supply 160,000 units of body armour.

VestGuard, based in Colchester, supplies police, military, government agencies and private sector organisations across the world.

Managing director Shaun Ward said: "In a time of recession this proves that there is still business to be done."

The firm was set up nine years ago and is now one of the UK's biggest exporters of body armour.

Mr Ward added: "British manufacturers and service providers are among the best in the world.

"We must promote that and power our way out of these troubled times."
