Youth accused over death of girl

A youth of 17 has been charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a 14-year-old girl in Essex.

Eleanor McGrath, of Shoebury, Essex, died in hospital after the incident in which a Citroen C1 car hit a group of youngsters in Thorpe Bay on 6 March.

Fourteen people were taken to hospital, eight with serious injuries.

The 17-year-old boy was also charged with eight counts of causing grievous bodily harm. He was bailed to attend Southend Youth Court on 21 May.

A 16-year-old boy remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following the incident.
