Police have received more than 100 reports of car vandalism in a month
CCTV footage of a man thought to have vandalised more than 100 cars in Essex has been released by police.
Up to £70,000 of damage has been caused to the vehicles in the attacks in Laindon, near Basildon.
The footage includes one incident of the man scratching the word "spartan" on to a car.
Since 28 February, more than 100 incidents have been reported to police by people whose vehicles have been vandalised in the town.
Operation Javelin was launched to investigate the crimes and police hope CCTV images may identify the man.
DCI Stuart Smith said: "In 20 years of policing I have never known instances of such wanton damage on such a scale.
"We assured the public when this happened that we would do all we could to catch this mindless vandal.
"I can assure you that every available resource is being deployed in order to detect these crimes.
The footage was due to be shown on a large television screen on a mobile police station at the Triangle shops in Laindon High Road.
DCI Smith said: "I believe that the image on show today is clear enough for someone to recognise the offender by his movement or stature.
"Also the writing is distinctive and anyone who knows the suspect would recognise the writing used."
