A man was critically injured when he was punched in an Essex car park.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said the 22-year-old was in the car park in Chancellor Road, Southend-on-Sea, when he was attacked early on Friday.

He was taken to Southend Hospital but was later transferred to Queen's Hospital, Romford. The spokeswoman said he had life-threatening head injuries.

Police are searching for a white man, aged between 20 and 22 and with dark hair, over the attack.
