Education quarter plans debated

A multi-million pound expansion of an Essex town's education quarter is set to be debated by councillors.

Regeneration group Renaissance Southend has proposed building a new library and new buildings for South East Essex College and the University of Essex.

There would also be space in Elmer Square for Southend Adult Community College. The plans are for Southend's Farringdon car park site.

It will be discussed by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's cabinet on Tuesday.

Officers have recommended the council supports the application.

The Farringdon site is surrounded by the University of Essex and South East Essex College to the south, the High Street to the east, Queens Road to the north and residential properties in Elmer Avenue to the west.
