Wimpy robbed by raider with knife

A man armed with a large kitchen knife has robbed a Wimpy restaurant in Essex of more than £1,000.

The robber struck at the Ness Road branch in Shoebury at about 1020 GMT when he threatened staff with the knife, said an Essex Police spokesman.

The man, between 5ft 8in (1.7m) to 5ft 9in (1.79m) in height, made his getaway through the back of the building.

Police said the member of staff was not injured, but "very shocked and shaken" by the incident.

Police said a four-figure sum of money was stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police.
