Shotgun used in cash box robbery

Two robbers armed with a shotgun escaped with cash after confronting a security guard as he made a delivery to an Essex bank.

The guard was delivering a cash box to an HSBC branch in Clacton when the robbers approached him outside the Jobcentre Plus office in Station Road.

Essex Police said the men threatened him with the shotgun and demanded he hand over the cash.

A police spokeswoman said the pair escaped with "a substantial sum".

She said nobody was hurt in the robbery and no shots were fired.

Police believe the men could have driven to the area in a blue van.

Officers investigating the robbery appealed for witnesses to get in touch.
