Teenager guilty of knife killing

A teenager has been found guilty of killing a 14-year-old boy who had a knife plunged into his head.

Jack Large was stabbed near a shopping precinct in Chigwell, Essex, last November and died in hospital two days later after having the knife removed.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Jurors failed to reach a verdict on another teenager, now aged 14, who was also charged with murder.

After the jury was discharged, he pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.

The court heard Jack was stabbed by the then 15-year-old when the pair squared up after the victim poked the teenager with an umbrella.

The court was told the convicted teenager, who is African-Caribbean, believed he had been called racist names by Jack, who was the subject of an anti-social behaviour order.

Sentencing will take place next month.
