Motorist hit by A12 debris dies

A driver struck by a piece of metal debris which crashed through his car's windscreen as he drove along the A12 in Essex, has died in hospital.

Melquiades Rene Vargas Sandoval, known as Rene Vargas, 47, from Colchester, was injured in the incident near Marks Tey on Saturday.

The metal, believed to have been lying in the road, hit his head after being flicked up by another vehicle.

Essex Police have seized a truck as part of the investigation.

Officers have also renewed appeals for the drivers of a white minibus and a white Mini, who swerved to avoid the debris during the incident, to contact them.
