Debris hits driver's head on A12

A driver is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a piece of metal debris which crashed through his windscreen on a main road in Essex.

The man, who is in his 30s and from Colchester, was driving on the A12 near Marks Tey at about noon when the accident happened.

The piece of metal, which had been lying on the road, hit the man's head after being swept up by another car.

The man was taken to hospital in Romford with life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed following the accident on the southbound lane.

Anyone with information about the piece of metal is asked to contact Essex Police.
