Arson ruled out in golf club fire

A fire that destroyed a golf club building in Essex was caused by an electrical fault and not arson.

Firefighters attended Ballards Gore Golf and Country Club at Stambridge near Rochford, on Saturday.

Southend station commander Martyn Hodder said 75% of the building was destroyed in the fire.

He added that firefighters had to use torches in the grounds to find a lake for their water after initial problems with a supply at the scene.
