Man hit over the head with bottle

A man was treated in hospital after being hit on the top of the head with a bottle in an unprovoked attack in an Essex holiday resort on Saturday night.

He was walking with a girlfriend, whose handbag was snatched, when four black men approached them at the Queensway and Boston Avenue junction in Southend.

The man had staples put in a head wound at Southend General Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses as where the attack happened would have been quite busy, a spokeswoman said.

She also appealed to residents to contact police if they find a handbag which may have been discarded by the attackers.
