Tenant's flat destroyed in fire

A council tenant has lost his home after 30% of his flat in Essex was destroyed by fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze in a first floor flat in Flatford Drive, Clacton, just after lunchtime.

Crews were told the man was suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. First aid was administered at the scene before paramedics arrived.

The flat's owner Tendring council was contacted as the man is now homeless.
