Acid spillage factory to re-open

Workers at Tiptree
More than 160 workers had to leave the jam factory after the spillage

A jam factory is expected to re-open later after a chemical spillage led to a dozen people being taken to hospital and evacuation of the site.

More than 160 workers had to leave Wilkin and Sons in Tiptree, Essex, after acid was mixed with another chemical, producing chlorine gas.

Paramedics treated 39 people for breathing difficulties at the scene of the accident on Monday afternoon.

Fire crews praised staff at the factory for neutralising the chemicals.
