Tribute paid to road crash victim

The family of a young man killed in a road crash in Essex have paid tribute to him.

Ben Stevens, 23, of Grantham Road, Great Horkesley, died when a Ford Escort he was a passenger in was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa.

The accident happened on the B1022 in Tiptree just before 2200 BST on Friday.

The 29-year-old driver of the Escort was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail.

In a statement, the dead man's family said: "Ben lived his life to the full. He was full of energy and could liven up any room with his presence. Ben was always caring and loving towards his family."

The driver of the Corsa, a 45-year-old woman from Fordham Heath, sustained minor injuries. She was treated at Colchester University Hospital and released.

The Escort driver, a 29-year-old man from Tiptree, is in a stable condition in hospital after sustaining serious head, facial and pelvic injuries.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact Essex Police.
