Driver arrested after fatal crash

A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 23-year-old man was killed in a crash in Essex.

The accident happened on the B1022 in Tiptree just before 2200 BST on Friday, when a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Escort were involved in a collision.

The male passenger of the Escort, Ben Stevens, of Grantham Road, Great Horkesley, Essex, died at the scene.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Escort was arrested after the crash.

The man, who was taken to hospital with serious head, facial and pelvic injuries, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The 45-year-old woman driving the Corsa suffered minor injuries and was taken to Colchester University Hospital - and is expected to be released later.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police.
