Attack leaves boy with broken jaw

A 14-year-old boy is to undergo reconstructive surgery on his face after an attack which Essex Police are describing as "savage and motiveless".

The attack happened at about 1600 BST on Tuesday 15 July in Benson Road in Grays and the boy suffered a broken jaw and chest injuries.

A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this savage attack in broad daylight.

"A gang kicked and punched the boy leaving him with severe injuries."

The boy was taken to Basildon University Hospital for treatment and has now returned there to undergo reconstructive surgery.

"We are treating the attack as motiveless at this stage," the police spokesman said.
