A 61-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a commuter who tried to thwart an armed robbery was shot in the chest.
Adam Mapleson, 24, was hailed a hero by British Transport Police after he was shot in an incident at Rayleigh railway station, Essex, in May, 2007.
Brian Wall, 61, of Elstow Road, Dagenham, was also charged with nine counts of conspiracy to rob.
Two other people have also been charged in connection to the robbery.
British Transport Police, Essex Police and the Metropolitan Police conducted dawn raids on Thursday, with armed officers simultaneously raiding three addresses at 0400 BST.
Liza Smith, 34, of Dell Close, London, and Terry George Smith, 49, of Point Road, Canvey Island, were arrested and charged with nine counts of conspiracy to rob, including the Rayleigh robbery.
The pair are unrelated.
All three appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court and were remanded in custody to Chelmsford Crown Court on 4 August.
