Boy falls from top window of bus

An 11-year-old boy fell out of a window on the upper floor of a bus into the traffic on a main road in Essex.

He was airlifted to hospital after the incident in Mersea Road, Abberton, near Colchester, on Tuesday afternoon.

An Essex Ambulance spokesman said: "We were told that the boy had been riding on the upper floor of a moving bus when he fell out of the window.

"When we arrived we found the boy in the road along with the window. He had a suspected fracture to his arm."

Paramedics called to the scene also found possible fractures to his left shoulder.

A neck collar was fitted and he was strapped to a spinal board for the flight to Colchester General for further treatment.

The spokesman said: "Although the injuries to his shoulder and arm may well turn out to be serious, he's still very lucky considering he fell into traffic and could have been hit by another vehicle."
