Traffickers smuggled 'up to 13'
The crime scene
Police are searching the area for any other people
A man believed to be a victim of people smugglers has told police up to 13 other people were in the vehicle which brought him to England.

He was found on the A12 in Witham, Essex, close to the dead body of one man and another who was seriously ill.

The man told Essex Police he was from Pakistan and that everyone in the van was dropped off at the same point but told to leave in small groups.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious on Monday is asked to contact police.

'Railway line'

A post-mortem examination on the dead man has so far failed to discover how he died.

A second man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being found severely dehydrated.

Police have managed to interview the third man through an interpreter.

He said he was being transported across continental Europe into England in a transit or box-type van.

The man said it was dark when they were told to leave the vehicle and believes suggested it stopped where it did because it was near a railway line.

Police are appealing for train commuters, in particular, who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them.
