A couple are celebrating with their family what is believed to be the longest marriage in Essex.

Victoria and Charles Button tied the knot 77 years ago, in the 1900s, and both will turn 100 this year.

When Mr Button of South Woodham Ferrers was a boy he said there was only one girl for him. It was Victoria, called mum by the family, who lived next door.

This month, the couple are celebrating with their daughter who has been married for 50 years.

The celebrations started last week when Mr Button made it to 100.

His wife will get her telegram from the Queen in November.

Mr Button said: "I always knew I would make it to 100 but I don't know how mum put up with me all those years."

Mrs Button said: "I believe in give and take. You need give to get along and a bit of take as well."
