Work starts on mental health unit
Work has started on a 3m psychiatric intensive care facility in Essex.

The two-storey unit at Basildon Mental Health Unit in Nethermayne will include 15 beds and facilities for people with disabilities.

On Thursday, chair of Basildon District Council Sandra Hillier will officially turn the turf for the new facility.

South Essex Trust's chief executive Dr Patrick Geoghegan OBE said the unit would allow patients to be treated in the best possible environment.

The new facility is expected to be complete by November 2006.
