A 20-year-old British holidaymaker has been shot dead during an armed robbery in Barbados, the Foreign Office confirmed on Friday.
Daniel May, from Hornchurch, Essex, was staying in a villa on the island's west coast with his father, Lindsay, and mother, Anne, when the raid took place.
It is thought Mr May and his father struggled with two intruders in the house on Wednesday night.
Mr May was shot several times and the robbers escaped with a sum of money.
The Royal Barbados Police Force said the robbery had taken place after the family returned from a restaurant.
One of the intruders was reportedly later arrested in hospital while he was being treated for a stab wound which he received in the struggle with Mr May and his father.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "Next of kin have been informed and the High Commission is offering every assistance."
