Naze campaign gets £5,000 grant
Naze Tower
A campaign to preserve part of an Essex town's heritage has been given a £5,000 boost from the National Lottery.

The money will be used in the fight to protect the crumbling Naze cliffs and stop the landmark Naze Tower at Walton-on-the-Naze.

The tower was built in 1721 to act as a marker for ships approaching the harbour at the nearby port of Harwich.

The lottery grant has been awarded to the Naze Protection Society, set up to save the area from sea erosion.

The society, set up eight years ago, is working to raise £800,000 to stop the premature destruction of the Naze..
