21m mental health unit go-ahead
A new 21m centre for people with mental health problems has been given the go-ahead after years of delay.

Plans to build the new development on the site of a closed hospital in Rochford, Essex, were considered in 2003 but not given the go-ahead.

Permission has now been granted by the district council to provide in-patient beds for more than 100 people.

Tony Humphries who chairs Rochford council planning committee said he hopes facilities will be open by 2007.
