A consultant's report recommending a name change to improve Basildon District Council's image is set to be rejected by councillors.

A leaked report to the council is recommending that the council ditch the name Basildon for its old Anglo-Saxon name Boerthals Hill.

But council leader Malcolm Buckley said the authority was not considering changing the name of the council.

The consultants were asked to look at the image of Basildon.

Mr Buckley said suggesting a name-change was outside the remit of the consultants.
